Mark is dedicated to creating equity value in the restaurant industry. To that end, he is an active consultant and partner to leading restaurant companies, aiding them in managing and financing their development, and to prominent private equity firms looking to make restaurant industry investments. He previously co-founded and was a venture partner of Dorset Capital Management, a consumer-focused private equity firm, where he was responsible for evaluating, making and monitoring private equity investments in the restaurant industry.

 

From 2001-2006, he served on the Board of Directors and the Corporate Governance Committee and acted as Chairman of the Compensation Committee of Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon, Inc. He was a member of the Negotiating Committee which directed the sale of Lone Star to a private equity firm in 2006.  From 2000-2007, Mark served on the Board of Directors and the Audit Committee of Pasta Pomodoro, Inc.

 

He has a strong, national network of leading operators, investors and financial intermediaries and has spoken at numerous restaurant industry conferences, including the Restaurant and Finance Development Conference, Restaurant Hospitality’s Concepts of Tomorrow Conference, the SS&G Restaurant CFO Bootcamp and the YPO Restaurant Industry Roundtable. His notable industry relationships include: Alicart, Applebee’s, bd's Mongolian Grill, BJ’s Restaurants, Cheesecake Factory, Corner Bakery, Daphne’s Greek Café, Del Frisco’s, Fogo De Chao, Fox Restaurant Concepts, Il Fornaio, Jimmy John’s, Landry's, Lone Star Steakhouse & Saloon, Nando’s, Papa John's, Pasta Pomodoro, Pei Wei Asian Diner, PF Chang’s, Pinkberry, Pot Belly Sandwich Works, Qdoba, Shake Shack, Sonic, Sullivan’s and Wood Ranch BBQ and Grill.

 

Prior to co-founding Dorset Capital, Mark was a Managing Director in the equity capital markets department at Montgomery Securities responsible for evaluating, structuring and pricing public equity offerings for consumer growth companies. He joined the investment banking department at Montgomery Securities in 1992 and most recently served as a Principal and Co-Director of the Restaurant Group. While working in the investment banking department at Montgomery, he completed more than 25 private and public financings and advisory assignments in the restaurant industry. During his dedicated involvement as Co-Director of the Restaurant Group from 1994 through 1996, Montgomery's restaurant group was the leading national underwriter of public equity offerings for restaurant companies. Prior to joining Montgomery, he worked in the investment banking department at Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc.

Mark received his B.S. in Economics, Concentration in Finance, Cum Laude, from The Wharton School at The University of Pennsylvania. He is married, has two sons and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
